
About the Pastor

Pastor Jim and Carol moved to New Chapel U.M.C. on July 1, 2006. Coming from Mt. Olive U.M.C. in Columbus serving in that appointment for 5 years. Carol and Jim were married at Mt. Olive on January 2, 2001 by Reverend Byron Fritz of Edinburgh U.M.C. Edinburgh, Indiana.
Pastor likes to cook, work around home, fish when possible and be around our grand children when possible. Pastor grew up at Grammer, Indiana, southeast of Columbus in Bartholomew County. Carol grew up at New Washington, Indiana, Clark County. Pastor’s family history is Greek and German, Northern Greek, Southern German. He would like to visit that area someday.
Pastor graduated from Columbus High School in 1961, while Carol graduated from New Washington High School in 1960. Jim attended Indiana Central in Indianapolis and Carol graduated from IU South in New Albany with R. N. degree.
MINISTRY:
Pastor and Carol visited the Holy Land in February 1, 2007, a wonderful trip of 10 days. Their ministry has led them to do 2 mission trips to the Mississippi Gulf Coast area to work in Katrina Hurricane area. Pastor grew up as a Presbyterian, serving as church Rep. to the Board of The United Christian Youth Movement in 1960. President of Youth Group, church deacon, and Sunday School Superintendent.
Pastor Jim became a United Methodist in 1985 at Columbus First U.M.C., later moving his membership to Ogilville in 1992. While at Ogiliville U.M.C. he served as chairperson of Trustees, Pastor/Parrish and was Lay Leader and Lay Member to Annual Conference from 1993-1996. Pastor took Basic A and B in 1996 becoming Lay Speaker and in 1997 became Certified Lay Speaker.
Pastor was appointed to his first church, West Madison U.M.C. at Madison, Indiana in 1997. In the spring of 1999 graduating from License to Preach School in Tipton, Indiana. Serving West Madison until June 1, 2001, as part-time local Pastor. Entered Course of Study School in August 2000 at ALPS Local Pastors School at Barborville, Ky., graduating from Indiana Course of Study School in Fall of 2005.
While at West Madison U.M.C. , Pastor became a River Chaplain, graduating River Chaplain’s School of Ministry on the Ohio River in 1997 serving from 1997 to 2001.
Pastor’s second appointment was to Mt. Olive U.M.C. in Columbus, Indiana in 2001, serving 2001-2006. While at Mt. Olive U.M.C. pastor served has the Board Rep. for Love Chapel of the Ecumential Assembly that serves the needs of the poor in Bartholomew County. While at Mt. Olive pastor has been appointed and served on the District level for Columbus District, Nomination Committee, Outdoor Ministries and the Committee for Building and Relocation from 2005 to present. At the Conference Level, Christian Unity 2002-2006.
CIVIC:
Fireman for Southwest VFD, 1995-2000 served as Secretary.
Chaplain of Harrison Township VFD, 2001 to present, Fireman of the Year in 2002.
Pastor and Carol are a part of the Columbus, Indiana Area Emmaus Community. Pastor’s walk was in 1997, Carol’s walk was in 2001. Jim has served on the Agape team and has given the Preventient and Santifying Grace talks. Carol has served as Assistance Tablet Leader, on the Agape team and Kitchen team. Pastor presently serves on the Board of Directors as Sponsorship and Reunion chairperson.
Pastor has been a Camp Councilor at Camp Rivervale in Mitchell, Indiana, 1996 to present.
WORK:
Pastor retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1995 after 32.9 years of service. Worked as a school bus driver from 1997-2006. Carol worked for Columbus Regional Hospital for 35 years and presently works for Hospice of South Central Indiana.
